Recognition & Award Programs

Best Workplaces For Commuters

Best Workplaces for CommutersSM is an innovative program that provides qualified employers with national recognition and an elite designation for offering outstanding commuter benefits, such as free or low cost bus passes, strong telework programs, carpooling matching and vanpool subsidies. Employers that meet the National Standard of Excellence in commuter benefits—a standard created by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency—can get on the list of Best Workplaces for Commuters.

On October 1, 2007, the Center for Urban Transportation Research (CUTR) assumed program management responsibilities for the Best Workplaces for Commuters program. CUTR, a nationally-recognized research institution and resource for policy makers, transportation professionals, the education system, and the public, is known for providing high quality, objective transportation research. With this experience, CUTR will bring new energy and direction to promoting the Best Workplaces for Commuters designation.

Best Workplaces for Commuters demonstrates that alternatives to drive-alone commuting, such as transit, carpools, and teleworking are economically beneficial, yielding value to workers, employers, and our environment.

Commuter Choice Awards

Since 1990, the Commuter Choice Awards have recognized local companies, schools and individuals for their innovative ways in developing, implementing and supporting commuter transportation programs. These programs have helped improve the quality of life in the Twin Cities metro area by reducing pollution and congestion on roadways and making employees' daily commutes more enjoyable.

The nomination period traditionally opens in early autumn and awards are presented in November.

If you feel your organization or someone in your organization should be recognized for innovative ways in developing, implementing and supporting commuter transportation programs, bookmark this page and return in the fall when nomination forms are available!
