Bike-n-Ride Bus Rack Demo

Stop by our store to learn how to load your bike on a bus! You can practice on a demonstration model of the rack that is mounted on all buses* in the metro region. If you have any questions, our courteous staff is always on hand to provide answers.

*Some State Fair buses are not equipped with bike racks.

Bike-n-Ride Bus Instructions

  1. Have your bike ready to load - always approach the bus from the curbside. Remove water bottles or other loose items.
  2. If the rack is in an upright position, lift the handle to release it and fold it down flat.
  3. If the rack is empty, load your bike in the space nearest the bus. You are responsible for loading and securing your bike on the rack. Drivers are not allowed to load or unload bicycles.
  4. Secure you bike by lifting the support arm and placing it over the front tire. Make sure the arm is not resting on the fender or frame.
  5. Hop on and pay your fare.
  6. When you reach your stop, tell your driver before you exit that you'll be removing your bike.
  7. Raise the support arm and lower it into place and lift your bike off the rack.
  8. Fold up the rack if it is empty and step on to the sidewalk with your bike.  Never cross in front of the bus - wait until the bus has left the stop.

Bike-n-Ride Train Instructions

Please note: To ensure safety, Metro Transit reserves the right to restrict bikes from being brought on board during special events or when trains are crowded.

  1. Walk - do not ride - bicycles at stations, platforms and trains.
  2. Pay your fare on the platform.
  3. Wait for the train behind the yellow stripe.
  4. Wait for those getting off the train, then let others board before you. If the train is full or all bike racks are in use, wait for the next train.
  5. Secure your bike in the upright racks located near the front and rear doors.
Place the rear wheel in the lower part of the rack then hook the front wheel at the top. Each train has space for four bikes.  Only two-wheeled, non-motorized bikes are allowed. Be sure to hold your bike and stay clear of doors at all times.
  6. As you approach your stop, prepare to remove your bike from the rack as soon as the train stops moving.
  7. Allow other passengers to exit before you unload your bike.
