Our MissionThe Downtown Minneapolis Transportation Management Organization advocates for and promotes a sustainable transit and transportation system that supports a vital and growing downtown Minneapolis. Our HistoryThe TMO, created by the City Council in 1991, is public-private partnership of the City of Minneapolis and downtown business community. TMO members represent various business and public sectors and are approved by City Council. Our ActivitiesCommuter Connection Commuter Connection is a project of the Downtown Minneapolis Transportation Management Organization (TMO). It is a comprehensive resource store for downtown commuters and visitors. We provide trip-planning, carpool ridematching and registration, bus passes, Metropass pictures, bicycle information and maps, and regional incentives (e.g. Guaranteed Ride Home) to over 160 people a day. Click here for directions to our store! Employer Outreach ![]() Employer Outreach (EO) engages employers as partners in reducing congestion. TMO staff assist employers with implementing transit benefit packages for employees, and taking advantage of regional incentive programs (e.g. Commuter Challenge) and state and federal tax breaks. Through these programs, employees reduce commuting expenses and employers save on payroll taxes. ![]() Advocacy TMO Executive Committee regularly advocate for innovative transportation and transit initiatives (e.g. Hiawatha LRT) RecognitionWithout the help of the TMO, I never would have been able to "sell" the Metropass program to our senior leaders & Since then I have come to depend on the TMO for accurate information, interesting ideas, innovations, and updates on future plans and legislation. TMO staff helped us assess commuting issues through completion of an employee survey. They were an excellent resource as we evaluated and implemented new commute programs for our staff, and helped simplify the steps to taking advantage of federal and state transit tax advantages. We must continue to rely on TMO as a key player in developing policy and workable solutions to deal with the very real problems of congestion, which lie ahead for our thriving central business district.
